Last night was my first night of rolling after attending a month of classes at BJJ.
I must have got tapped out around 863 times in total.
But it was an important part of the process.
It’s been a while since I’ve voluntarily exposed myself to something I absolutely suck at.
Starting BJJ has been something I’ve thought about for years.
However, I always found an excuse – times didn’t suit, too busy, was going to cost money, don’t want to be sore for football etc
But the reality was, I knew I would be completely out of my comfort zone and I was happy to hide behind these excuses.
I thought it would be a miserable experience.
Paradoxically, I’ve been enjoying every minute of it.
Knowing that there is so much potential to get better at something.
I makes little sense but there’s something very satisfying about being literally a white belt and working to level up your skills.
I think this is essential for humans.
I feel this goes for everything.
I think people are reluctant to pursue a health and fitness goal because it’s an unknown world to them.
The human default setting is one of comfort.
But when we can step out of that belief system – good shit happens.
Have a strong week 💪
