The internet is a great resource, there is no question that so many great opportunities are now available due to modern day technology – but there certainly are some down sides to this.
I have been working with a client online and he hit a plateau with his progress a few weeks back.
After digging a little deeper I identified the problem.
After looking at his food journal for a couple of weeks, I noticed that every Friday and Saturday night he would eat all the calories.
His food choices were conducive with his goals through the week, but he had major blow outs at the weekend.
This is fine, theres no issues with this – but he was determined to lose fat and told me this was a 10/10 priority for him, which in this case, its maybe not fine.
I asked him about it, he responded by telling me “I follow this guy online that has cheat meals at the weekend”
‘This guy’ he followed was a pro bodybuilder, he was not in the same situation as my client.
His goals were totally different, his situation was totally different and what worked for him wasn’t working for my client.
The point, my client was looking for something that fitted his narrative.
If you look hard enough online you’ll find the information that you want to find.
Don’t like Squatting, you can find content that says you don’t need to squat.
Don’t like veg, you’ll be able to find an article saying it’s bad for you.
Don’t like doing the work, you’ll find an article saying you can burn calories having a bath.
He wanted to still be able to eat junk and lose weight.
He probably ignored the 1000s of articles and posts discouraging this and focused on the one thing that he wanted to hear.
The beauty of hiring a coach is that they can filter this information for you, they will have your best interests at heart, they should tell you what will benefit you and not what you want to hear.
