Environment Dictates Habits

Your environment will dictate habits – good or bad.

I have been following alot of the work from James Clear for some time now and it is no surprise that people really struggle to develop new habits or kick existing bad habits, which can prevent them from making progress in the gym or with their fat loss goals.

The habits of the people you surround yourself with will positively or negatively impact your habits.

What is considered ‘normal’ in the environment you are in will likely be your ‘normal’.

For example, look at the gym you train at.

What do the majority of people do there?

If the habit of the majority is to piss about, catch up on gossip and do the bare minimum, guess what you will end up doing?

People want to be accepted and if you are in such an environment you will develop habits that are inline with the majority.

If you want to get stronger, fitter or drop some weight these type of environments will make it more difficult as the habits you pick up may not match the desired outcome.

It’s the same with diet and nutrition.

If you want to start eating healthier to lose weight and you’re surrounded by people living on junk food and takeaways you will levitate towards these habits.

If your goal is to get in shape, spending more time around people who are in shape or getting in shape will have a profound effect on the habits you develop.

Managing habits and putting strategies in place is far more effective in achieving long term success than relying on motivation.
