If a food is readily available, it will get consumed – healthy or unhealthy.
I will preface this by saying I don’t really believe that it should be as black and white as healthy and unhealthy, the old ‘it depends’ statement holds true – but for the purpose of this post, lets all agree that an apple is healthy a doughnut is unhealthy.
Most people believe they need superhero discipline and will power to have a better diet, this might be the case – but only if you don’t set yourself up to be successful.
Are you struggling with your diet? If so, what does your kitchen and cupboards look like?
Do you always find yourself reaching for ‘unhealthy’ snacks after work when watching TV? Can’t find the motivation to “PUT THAT COOKIE DOWN” (a reference to Arnold).
What if you had no junk food in your cupboards? What if you only had access to some fruit?
Re-read the first line if the post.
If you only have junk food in the house, you’ll eat it.
If you only have fruit in the house, you’ll eat it.
If you want to lean up a bit or sort your diet out, then set up your environment up for success.
Yes you can try and rely on will power – but let me know how that goes for you.
If you have your favourite ‘unhealthy’ snack setting on your work top or on your office desk you will eat it eventually.
If you have to have sweets in the house for your kids or partner, make sure they are stashed in the back of a cupboard and that you have a healthier option more easily available to you.
Make life easier for yourself, manipulate your environment and set yourself up for the win.
