The False Grip
I get asked on a regular basis how to perform a muscle up, guys think it looks cool and want to be able to do it. I usually explain to them about being strong in the pull up and strong with ring dips before even looking at anything else.
Once I am happy they tick the boxes on these I will bring up the false grip.
The false grip is the way you hold the rings whilst performing a ring muscle up. It’s pretty awkward and uncomfortable but allows you to transition from the pull up to the top position dip.
Most guys like the idea of doing a muscle up but when I tell them they have to strengthen their false grip with rows and pull ups they tend to go off the idea quickly.
The false grip is uncomfortable, difficult and requires patience when developing this aspect of the exercise. However, when you persevere and are consistent with putting in the work then you will achieve the desired goal. People don’t achieve the goal because they don’t want to do something uncomfortable.

Think about it when it comes to fat loss – you know what you need to do, but are you willing to put yourself in that uncomfortable position where you have to change your current diet or get into the habit of exercising instead of watching TV on the couch?
In order to achieve something you’ve not done before you need to get out your comfort zone and do things you may not enjoy but you know will lead to the end goal whatever it may be.
Anything worth having will require a level of sacrifice, lots of hard work and patience. If something is genuinely important to you it won’t come easy but it’ll certainly be worth it when you achieve it.
