DON’T OVERLOOK THE OBVIOUS

A couple of chapters into Dan John’s book ‘Now What’ and there’s a great take away from it so far – Don’t overlook the obvious.Want to lose weight? Eat less junk……Build strength? Lift heavy…….Improve your sport? Play the sport…….Get better at running? Run.Want to build muscle? Lift weights.Such advice is often lost in a world where everyone is looking for something new, cool and fancy.

People think that they are a special case and like to use excuses as to why they aren’t in the position they want to be.

You will have heard it before, people saying things like:

“I can’t lose weight because of my metabolism”“I can’t build muscle because of my genetics”

“I can’t get in shape because of gluten”

Normally people that make these statements haven’t actually immersed themselves in the ‘obvious’.

They will look for complicated solutions to simple problems.

These complicated solutions are usually some sort of ‘hack’ or ‘quick fix’.They want to lose weight, but instead of focusing on cutting a small amount of calories, drinking more water, eating more veg and becoming more active – they want to try a complicated diet and training programme that they are not ready for.

When you are working towards your goal, make sure you visit the obvious ‘stuff’ that always works.

Despite the advances in technology over the years, the human body hasn’t changed too much over the past 30 years.

There are certain things that have worked for all those years and these will continue to work for the next 30 years when it comes to getting in shape, losing fat and building muscle.Struggling to reach your goal? Focus on the ‘obvious’ and consistently work hard at this for a good period of time before you start looking elsewhere.
