CHANGE ‘HAVE’ TO ‘GET’

When it comes to reaching your health and fitness goals it is important to not just focus on the foods you eat and the way you train.

These are obviously very important, from my experience, most people know what to eat and how to train – yet many still struggle.

The problem usually comes from a mindset / motivation issue and negative self talk can be extremely detrimental to you achieving your goals.

Your outlook on the situation will impact on the success or failure of the task on hand.

Fat loss, dieting, working hard, going to the gym, sacrifice are usually things people don’t like and they have a negative outlook on them.

I HAVE to go to the gym.

I HAVE to lose weight.

I HAVE to eat healthy.

I HAVE to do these f*****g Burpees.

I HAVE to cut out junk food.

When you use the term ‘HAVE TO’ you automatically view everything as a negative or a bad thing. Your mind automatically thinks that the task will be a struggle.

As humans our default is to take the path of least resistance, to avoid difficult situations and things we don’t like doing.

When we view our fitness journey in this light – it’s only normal that things become a struggle.

However, what if we start using different terminology.

What if we change ‘HAVE TO’ to ‘GET TO’. One simple word change can change the entire outlook on the situation.

I GET to go to the gym.

I GET to lose weight.

I GET to eat healthy.

I GET to do these f*****g Burpees.

I GET to cut out junk food.

These statements all sound much more positive than the ones above. When you are more positive about a situation or task you will be more likely to do it and stick to it.

When you change your frame of reference you change your opinion on the situation.

Changing ‘HAVE’ to ‘GET’ can make more of difference than you think. Instead of you feeling like eating healthy is a massive inconvenience you will now see it as something positive and something you should be grateful to be in a position to do this.

Many people would love to be able to be in a position to eat better, lose fat, go to a nice gym and become healthier.

This can be adopted to other areas in life………

I HAVE / GET to go to work.

I HAVE / GET to watch the kids.

I HAVE / GET to get up at 6am.

I HAVE / GET to visit my grandparents.

What statement sounds more positive?

Complaining about a situation makes it much worse than it needs to be.

Changing the narrative of a situation or problem can have a massively positive effect on the outcome.

GET TO > HAVE TO
