That time of year is approaching where everyone starts to panic about gaining weight over the festive period…….
Normally, I would be the first to offer some tips and advice about “watching what you eat”, “making sure you burn more calories than you consume”, “limiting alcohol” etc
However, I read a great post yesterday by my friend Barry, over at Hybrid 7 Fitness and really got me thinking……..

People seem more concerned about weight gain over the festive period than they do during the rest of the year.
They feel that there are some secret strategies to preventing weight gain over the festive period, whereas they should be focusing on what goes on during the rest of the year.
Barry says “Eat well the other 50 weeks of the year and you can worry less about what you eat around this time of year”
This is absolutely true and you find that those people who do train and eat well consistently all year, yes there are good weeks and bad weeks, have no issues with enjoying themselves over the festive period and are generally not affected by over indulging at Christmas.
Those people who are mostly hit by the dreaded ‘Christmas weight gain’ are those who have the ‘on it or off it’ mindset. They have probably already given up on their training and diet and waiting for January to recommence with a diet completely eliminating any ‘junk’ food and going to the gym 65 times for the first 2 weeks, which we all no doesn’t last. They then spend the rest of 2017 either on an extreme weight loss diet or eating everything in sight without training.
We are almost at the end of the 2016, so rather than stressing out about keeping the weight off over Christmas why not look more long term………
Change your usual ‘New Year New Me’ hardcore, unrealistic approach to a healthier 2017 and focus on small, sustainable changes that can be carried on all year.
Then this time next year you will be in a lot better position health wise than this year and looking forward to the Festivities without worrying about that Christmas weight gain!
